January 4: The government has decided to conduct a study in order to effectively implement the release of concessional loans for sectors affected by Covid-19.

The government decided to take such measure amid complaints that the targeted groups have not received the concessional loan. A recent meeting of the High-Level Financial Sector Coordination Committee chaired by Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel directed Nepal Rastra Bank to conduct a study  on the effectiveness of the concessional loan and present a report in the next meeting, according to joint secretary Rameshwar Dangal.

“The finance minister has shown special interest toward concessional loan. The central bank has been instructed to conduct a study about the effectiveness of concessional loan and present a report in the next meeting,” said Dangal.

The government has announced business continuity loan for the sectors affected by coronavirus. However, the programme has not been effectively implemented so far.

The private sector has been complaining that the affected businesses have not been able to take concessional loan at all.

During the high-level meeting, Minister Poudel noted the fact that the concessional loan announced by the government has not been able to reach the targeted group.

The minister directed the central bank and Nepal Bankers Association to immediately implement the provision to avail concessional loan.
