December 25: Banks and financial institutions have been helping anyone who has a regular source of income and is aspiring to build a beautiful house but lacks lump sum to fulfill his dream.

BFIs have been providing loan for customers to build house in accordance to the work procedure issued by Nepal Rastra Bank, which is the regulatory body of banks and financial institutions.

Banks say that there has been an increase in demand for housing loan as it is the season for building houses. Banks are competing with each other to provide housing loan.

Commercial banks have issued loan worth Rs 420.97 billion for personal homes and commercial housing as of mid-November. The loan disbursement in this sector is 13.81 percent of the total loans provided by the banking sector.

During the review period, the total flow of loans from banks and financial institutions stood at Rs 3048.36 billion.

People are more interested in taking loans for personals homes rather than commercial complex. According to data of Nepal Rastra Bank, a total of Rs 257 billion loan not exceeding Rs 15 million for an individual have been provided for personal homes.

For commercial purpose and real estate business, a total of Rs 163 billion have been released by BFIs.

According bankers, the demand for loan which had declined due to coronavirus has again started increasing, especially for home loans.

Chairman of Nepal Bankers Association Bhuvan Kumar Dahal informed that both personal loans as well as loan for commercial purpose have started flowing.

“The price of cement is affordable but the price of iron rods has increased. Despite the price hike, the demand for home loan is growing. This is the season for building houses,” said Dahal.
