September 9: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has decided to finalize the investment deal with Zurich Airport International within September 30.

A meeting of the Nijgadh Airport High-level Facilitation Committee chaired by tourism minister Yogesh Bhattarai on Tuesday decided to hand over the responsibilities of finalizing the deal with the Swiss company to the Investment Board.

The meeting also decided to submit a report on relocating the Tangia settlement within 15 days after a field visit. For this, the committee has formed another committee headed by a joint secretary of the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, informed tourism ministry’s spokesperson Kamal Prasad Bhattarai. 

Tuesday’s meeting also instructed the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) to complete the remaining procurement process in line with the master plan of the airport within a week.

The Nijgadh International Airport is one of the national pride projects of Nepal. The airport covers 1900 hectares of land. So far, the authorities have completed counting 57,350 trees in the construction site.

The meeting also decided to provide additional human resource to the Division Forest Office, Bara to complete the “numbering” of trees and poles in the area so that the work gets completed within the next three months.
