April 12: Three new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Nepal on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 12.  However, all of the three newly infected persons are reportedly Indian nationals who have been admitted to Narayani Hospital in Parsa, which shares border with India.

Informed sources said that Hetauda-based Vector Borne Disease Research and Training Center had sent three swab samples of the suspects to Kathmandu for further testing as it couldn't independently confirm the results. However, after testing at the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory, the three samples were confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Although doctors at the lab had confirmed the cases on Saturday itself, the government had covered up the cases announcing publicly that no new cases have been reported within a week.

The the Ministry of Health and Population is yet to officially make an announcement about the new cases by the time this report was prepared but the data prepared by Worldometer, which provides authentic updates of coronavirus cases worldwide, has already increased the number of infected cases in Nepal from 9 to 12.

According to Worldometer, 1,784,751 people have so far been infected with the virus that is believed to have originated in Wuhan of China in late December last year. The deadly disease has already claimed 110,000 lives and has spread to 210 countries and territories around the world.
