The Great Himalaya Trail Development Programme in co-operation with local stakeholders unveiled the new Humla destination brand. It includes the electrification of teashops along the Great Himalaya Trail that is hoped to bring benefits to small-scale entrepreneurs. The Tourism Development Committee of Humla and The Great Himalaya Trail Development Programme (GHTDP) jointly launched the GHT Humla destination brand and logo in Simikot this Friday, 14 June. All major political parties as well as the Chief District Officer (CDO), Local Development Officer (LDO), members of the Chamber of Commerce, tourism entrepreneurs in the districts, journalists and civil society members were present during the program.

Mim Hamal, team leader of the GHTDP, presented the Humla brand and logo to district stakeholders. "The new GHT Humla brand and logo will be incremental in promoting the destination internationally and within Nepal and is thus an important tool for tourism development in the district", said Hamal.

During the same event, Nepal Trust Humla in cooperation with the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club USA and GHTDP, distributed solar lamps to more than 165 small teashops and teahouses along the Humla section of the Great Himalaya Trail from Chankheli to Hilsa. The initiative is targeted towards helping small-scale entrepreneurs who survive on meagre capital and are facing difficulties due to the lack of electricity. Through alternative energy sources, dependency on wood is reduced, helping to decrease deforestation and pressure on the local ecosystem while at the same time alleviating health problems due to smoke from indoor  fireplaces.
