June 9: With less than 38 days remaining in the current fiscal year, it has been found that the government is yet to spend 40 percent of the total budget allocated for the current fiscal.

According to the Office of the Auditor General (OAG), the recurrent expenditure stands at 69.3 percent, while the capital expenditure stands at 46.1 percent in the current fiscal year.

The government had allocated Rs 845 billion for recurrent expenditure. Likewise, a total of Rs 313 billion had been allocated for capital expenditure. Similarly, Rs 155 billion had been allocated for financing provision, but the government has been able to spend only 36.06 percent of the total amount.

As of June 7, the government has been able to spend only 60 percent of the total budget. The government had allocated Rs 114 billion for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. The ministry has been able to utilise 87 percent of the recurrent expenditure, and 63 percent of capital expenditure.

Likewise, the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation has spent 38 percent of recurrent budget, and 50 percent of capital budget. Similarly, other ministries have also failed to spend the budget allocated by the government.
