Rana, a renowned businessman and a “pioneer” entrepreneur in Nepal’s tourism industry, died of heart attack in a New York-based hospital, according to his family sources. He was admitted to the hospital about a year ago.</p>

Rana, a versatile businessman, was engaged in multiple sectors like tourism, hospitality, trade, hydropower and automobiles.</p>
<p>
He was also the founder of Sipradi Trading, which is the authorised distributor of Tata Motors in Nepal. He is also the chairman of Surya Nepal.</p>
<p>
His company owns a large portion of shares of Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project.</p>
<p>
According to the website of Soaltee Hotel, Rana was educated in India where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (first class with honours) degree from the esteemed Patna University.</p>
<p>
He was a trustee of the American Himalayan Foundation and a global member of the International Council of the Asia Society, New York.</p>
