Economist Keshav Acharya says excluding the agricultural sector from the ambit of tax is not a good idea. He told New Business Age that the government should consider taxation on this sector provided that it is able to reduce the cost of production. He also suggested the government not to ignore the agricultural sector.</p>

Former Finance Secretary Rameshwar Khanal says that the local governments can impose tax on agricultural sector right away. He says it is possible for the government to earn good revenue from this sector if it can transform the traditional farming system into commercial farming.</p>
<p>
Likewise, another economist Dr Chandra Mani Adhikari says that the commercial farmers can be brought under the ambit of tax. He, however, said that the government must first ensure that there is an increase in production before imposing tax.</p>
