May 14: Home-stay service has helped improve the living standard of locals of Maiwakhola, Taplejung. Altogether 22 households in this remote area have been providing home-stay facility for tourists since a year.</p>
<p>
Visitors can enjoy the cuisines of the ethnic Limbu community including Yangben, Tongba Sukuti, and local chicken during home-stay</p>
<p>
“We offer special Limbu traditional foods and drinks as the home-stay service is operated mostly by people of the Limbu community. The guests also enjoy the traditional food,” says chairperson of the Home-stay Operation Committee, Shiva Kumar Limbu. Likewise, they welcome guests by performing traditional dances called Dhan Nach and Chyabrung Nach.</p>
<p>
While the source of income of locals has improved from the home-stay service, their standard of living has also changed. The locals have given proper attention to cleanliness and decoration to attract visitors, thereby transforming the entire village.</p>
<p>
“Prior to the operation of home-stay, domestic animals were left loose and houses were decorated once in a year. But today, houses and the surrounding areas are cleaned every day,” says secretary of the commmittee, Lokmani Chongbang. He further claimed that regular cleanliness and greenery has made the village more beautiful than before.</p>
