May 2: A cold store being built at Chanauli of Chitwan in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model is in the final stage of construction. The store is being built under Chitwan-Chanauli Cold Store Project.

The cold store is being built at an investment of Rs 150 million. According to Tirtha Ram Regmi, president of the cold store, it is being built with an aim of starting operation by January next year. The store will have a capacity to hold 2500 metric tons of degradable goods.

“After the completion of the store, the farmers from the neighboring districts will also benefit. As a result, the production will not go wasted,” Regmi added. Agricultural, dairy, and meat products will be stored in the cold store.

According to Surya Mani Poudel, executive director and secretary of the store, the cold store will be a five-storey modern building with elevators. “The ground floor will store meat products, and other floor will also be managed accordingly. After the completion of the construction, there will be no milk holiday and chicken holiday,” he adds.

The store is under construction since 2014, and is considered as a modern cold store of the whole central region. The products stored in the store will be sold in the off-season.

The store has been built by 50 percent share from the Cooperative Department of the Provincial government, and 50 percent share from the cooperatives and farmers associated with it.
