May 2: The government of Nepal has been delaying the payment of Rs 65 billion to construction companies across the country. Construction entrepreneurs informed New Business Age that the government authorities have withheld their bills worth Rs 65 billion.

The Federation of Contractors Association of Nepal (FCAN) in a press meet on Tuesday informed that the government officials have been neglecting their request to pay the pending bills despite continues call for payment.

FCAN said that the government is showing double standard by not paying the contractors and by publicizing notice about their failure in meeting the development targets.

According to FCAN officials, construction done through consumer committees is causing institutional corruption at the lower level and has also affected the quality and standard of the construction works.

“The government is defaming us by saying that we have failed to meet the deadline but the authorities themselves have created the hurdles by holding our payments,” informed Ravi Singh, chairman of FCAN.

May 2: The government of Nepal has been delaying the payment of Rs 65 billion to construction companies across the country. Construction entrepreneurs informed New Business Age that the government authorities have withheld their bills worth Rs 65 billion.

The entrepreneurs also expressed their fear that they might have to shut their businesses and get blacklist by the banks due to the delay in payment from the government authorities.

It is the delay in payment that has created problems for us to continue with our construction work, he added.
