According to Nawaraj Dhakal, spokesperson at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, the government is working to bring the sector under the regulations to properly supervise the e-commerce platforms.</p>
<p>
Currently, the government doesn’t have database of the e-commerce companies operating in Nepal. According to a member of the committee formed to formulate the draft, a survey of the ministry shows that there are more than 50,000 e-commerce companies in the country.</p>
<p>
Currently, e-commerce platforms like eSewapasal, Daraz, Hamrobazar, Bhatbhateni, among others are digitally operating in the market. However, the government is yet to bring these platforms under the ambit of tax.</p>
<p>
The cabinet, two months ago, had decided to form a committee led by commerce secretary to formulate a draft to regulate the e-commerce sector. </p>
