February 10: All four major airports in Karnali Province have been shut due to heavy snowfall. Humla’s Hilsa-based airport, Mugu’s Talcha Airport, Jumla’s Khalanga Airport and Jufal Airport of Dolpa have remained shut since the last few days due to the snowfall. Summit Air informed New Business Age that the company’s aircraft have been grounded in Nepalgunj as they could not make flights to any of these airports because of adverse weather.</p>

Efforts are underway to clear the snow with the improvement of weather from Sunday. However, airport authorities say that it might take several days for the flights to resume as the snow is yet to melt.</p>
<p>
It has been reported that there is two-feet snow on the runway of Jufal Airport, which might take at least a week to melt.</p>
<p>
The disruption of flights has not only stranded the passengers but also caused shortage of daily essentials in the remote areas which rely on air service for goods.</p>
<p>
“We have been waiting at Nepalgunj Airport since the last three days,” said Ramananda Upadhyay, who had booked a ticket for Dolpa.</p>
<p>
According to him, the latest snowfall on Saturday has further dented their hopes of flight resumption anytime soon. He told New Business Age that they are now preparing to travel on foot as it would take at least a week to clear the snow.</p>
