Black is always better for a formal look than brown, which is a little more causal. Derived from the half-boots called Oxonians that was a rage at Oxford University in the 1800s, the contemporary shoes come in a range of styles that speak to the cosmopolitan man with an intellectual bent.</p> <p align="left"> <br /> <strong>Derby (aka Blüchers):</strong></p> <p> The Derbies are similar to the Oxfords but the difference is in the lacing style which makes this shoe style less formal compared to the classic Oxford. You can get a pair in any colour, brogue or non brogue, cap-toed, wing tipped, as well as in many different types of leather and linen. The Derbies are for smart-casual dressing such as jeans, dress shorts and sport coats. They are less suited for suits but do make a good shoe choice for business attire on rainy days due to their more rugged construction.</p> <p align="left"> Casual business attire with slacks and sports coat as much as dark wash jeans and cardigan sweaters look good on these shoes.</p> <p align="left"> <br /> <strong>Loafers</strong></p> <p> Comfortable and versatile loafers are the traveling businessman’s best friend. The sleeker and simpler the design, the more formal it is. Loafers look great with jeans and dress pants, as well as with suits when not wearing a necktie. Blace loafers are best for formal wear for men whereas loafer pumps made from shiny black patent leather as best for a formal look for women. Typical is a grosgrain ribbon decoration on the cap of the shoe.
