Researchers from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) designed the software Monitoring Climate Change (Moclic) through which it is possible to organise, store and operate geo-referenced data from climate elements. Moclic can calculate bio and agroclimatic indicators, such as humidity, aridity, rain erosion and rainfall concentration, researchers said. </div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>LinkedIn, Pinterest More Popular than Twitter: Study</strong></span></div> <div> <img alt="LinkedIn, Pinterest More Popular than Twitter: Study" src="/userfiles/images/tb2%20(Copy)(2).jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; width: 125px; height: 81px;" />More US adults use LinkedIn and Pinterest than Twitter, but that website attracts a greater proportion of blacks and young adults than do its social media peers, a Pew Research Center study released on last Monday showed. Photo pin-up site Pinterest spiked in popularity over the past year, according to the survey, a poll of 1,445 Internet users aged 18 and older. About 21 per cent of respondents said they employ the service, up sharply from 15 per cent in a similar survey conducted a year ago.</div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>New Technology Boosts Information Storage in Electronics</strong></span></div> <div> <img alt="New Technology Boosts Information Storage in Electronics" src="/userfiles/images/tb3%20(Copy)(2).jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; width: 125px; height: 79px;" />Researchers have developed a new technology that enables bigger and longer lasting memory in electronics such as laptops and smartphones. A team of researchers from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Engineering developed the new Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM) technology that can boost information storage in electronic systems. The technology will drastically increase storage space and enhance memory which will ensure that fresh data stays intact, even in the case of a power failure. Led by Dr Yang Hyunsoo, the team developed a new device structure useful for the next generation MRAM chip which can potentially be applied to enhance the user experience in consumer electronics, including personal computers and mobile devices such as laptops and mobile phones. </div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>Microsoft Launches New Safety App for Windows Phone Users</strong></span></div> <div> <img alt="Microsoft Launches New Safety App for Windows Phone Users" src="/userfiles/images/tb4%20(Copy)(1).jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; width: 125px; height: 103px;" />Technology giant Microsoft launched a new application ‘Guardian’ with safety features, exclusively for Windows Phone users. Guardian enables users to switch on a ‘track me’ feature in the app that lets friends and family track them in real-time using Microsoft Windows Azure cloud services and Bing Map, the company said in a release. Guardian users can call for help through an ‘SOS’ alert button and also connect to security agencies, police and hospitals easily via this app in times of crisis, it added. This allows the malware to transmit keystrokes and other sensitive data even when infected machines have no network connection. The new malware uses high-frequency audio signals to bridge the ‘air gap’ — a type of security where network is secured by keeping it separate from other local networks and the Internet. The company has announced plans to re-release 2004’s Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for smartphones and tablets in December. The game will be available for iPhone, iPad, Android (including Amazon’s Kindle Fire) and Windows devices. Rockstar also says that the game has been given a makeover to ensure it’s up to scratch in 2013. “Newly re-mastered graphics including dynamic and detailed shadows, greater draw distance, an enriched color palette, plus enhanced character and car models make this the best-looking version of San Andreas yet,” claimed the company. “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas also features brand new touch controls including contextual control options to display buttons only when you need them and three different control schemes for driving and maneuvering, as well as a reworked checkpoint system for easier progression.”</div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>R.I.P Mandela: Top Trending Topic on Twitter</strong></span></div> <div> Hashtag (#) R.I.P. Last month, Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook introduced the colorful iPhone 5c, a less-expensive version of Apple’s smartphone, to “serve even more customers” around the world. It turns out people so far are more interested in its pricier, feature rich cousin, the 5s. Customers are shrugging off the $99 iPhone 5c even as Apple spends heavily to advertise the handset, which is last year’s model repackaged in a colored plastic case. The 5c, which costs $100 less than the souped-up iPhone 5s, is Apple’s attempt to lure buyers in developing markets like China, where Samsung and other Android phone makers lead. Three surveys in the past two weeks said the company’s new high-end model is outselling the 5c by at least 2 to 1. </div> <div> </div> <div> <span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>You’ll Barely Notice the World’s Smallest USB 3.0 Flash Drive</strong></span></div> <div> <img alt="" src="/userfiles/images/usb3.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px; width: 100px; height: 58px;" />When it comes to prolonging the life of your laptop, there’s no easier upgrade than adding an ultra-compact USB flash drive to expand its storage capacity-particularly if it’s got a small SSD on board. All of this can be done by logging into the Android Device Manager website on any laptop, desktop or other mobile device. There is as yet no word on international launches. Google also announced an upgraded Nexus 7 tablet, the first to run the new version of the Android system. Chromecast is Google’s latest attempt to gain ground in the television industry. In 2012, Google faltered in its attempts to make a move into the living room, considered by many experts to be ripe ground for making large profits through advertising. <em>(Agency) </em></div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <strong><img alt="" src="/userfiles/images/android.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;width: 100px; height: 75px;" />Hackers Use Android ‘Master Key’ </strong></div> <div> A security firm says it has identified the first known malicious use of Android’s “master key” vulnerability. The bug - which was first publicised earlier this month - allows attackers to install code on to phones running Google’s mobile operating system and then take control of them. Symantec said its researchers had found two apps distributed in China that had been infected using the exploit. Google has already taken moves to tackle the problem. A fortnight ago it released a patch to manufacturers, but it will not have been sent to all handset owners yet.Google also scans its own Play marketplace for the exploit, but this will not protect consumers who download software from other stores. The vulnerability was first reported by security research firm BlueBoxon 3 July. </div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <strong><img alt="Sony confirms PS Gran Turismo Film in Production" src="/userfiles/images/psgran.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;width: 100px; height: 71px;" />Sony confirms PS Gran Turismo Film in Production </strong></div> <div> Sony has confirmed that a film based on the Gran Turismo PlayStation game is in development. The service, called Android Device Manager, is similar to the “Find My iPhone” service outed by Apple in 2011, and enables Android phone and tablet owners to remotely find and manage their lost devices. Users will be able to view the current location of their devices on a map; lock their devices remotely; or, if they think a device has been stolen, activate a noisy alarm in order to ward off thieves, or erase all memory on their device. All of this can be done by logging into the Android Device Manager website on any laptop, desktop or other mobile device. The feature will become available later this month and will be able to track all devices running Android 2.2 or newer; a companion app will also be available for download in the Google Play Store. </div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <strong>Valve Appoints Gaming Economist </strong></div> <div> <img alt="Valve Appoints Gaming Economist" src="/userfiles/images/vALVE.jpg" style=" float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;width: 115px; height: 90px;" />Game maker Valve has appointed an in-house economist to help manage the virtual economies that have sprung up around its many titles. The company has signed up economics professor Yanis Varoufakis as their resident expert adviser. In a brief statement , the company said it would “decide on the early departure of the President and CEO” and the appointment of his replacement at a meeting Wednesday. The company is due to report its third-quarter results next Thursday. Loescher, 55, has led the company since 2007, but his pending departure comes just a few days after the surprise announcement of a profit warning. Last Thursday, it said it no longer expected to reach a profit margin of at least 12 per cent by the 2014 business year. Already in May, it trimmed its full-year targets as it posted mixed second-quarter numbers, with a boost in orders but problems in the areas of revenues and profit. After Thursday’s news, Loescher was still insisting he wanted to finish the job he had started.<em> (Agency) </em></div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <strong><img alt="Google Launches low-Cost TV Dongle" src="/userfiles/images/google.jpg" style="float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;width: 100px; height: 100px;" />Google Launches low-Cost TV Dongle </strong></div> <div> Google has announced a low-cost competitor to Apple TV - a “dongle” device called Chromecast. Apple toppled Exxon Mobil from its number one spot as its market capitalization went up by 0.9% to $414 bn. Exxon overtook Apple’s market cap in late January of this year, amidst a continued sell-off of its stock. It lost the title last Thursday as its shares were down 1.8% on its disappointing earnings report, giving the firm a market capitalization of $409bn, Market Watch reports. Apple share price has last reached $457. However, the company is still $100 short from the beginning of 2013. Last September 2012, the company’s share price went as high as $700, its highest so far. Investors are hoping that the company can now gain its momentum as consumers anticipate the debuts of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, which is a low-cost iPhone, a fifth-generation iPad, an iPad mini with retina display and iWatch. </div> <div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <strong>Google to Bring ‘Find My Device’ Feature to Android </strong></div> <div> <img alt="Android Operating System maker Google" src="/userfiles/images/google%20android.jpg" style=" float: left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;width: 115px; height: 72px;" />Android Operating System maker Google announced that it will offer a new service to help users keep track of their Android devices from afar.
